What we do

We are a lively centre where older people who might otherwise become isolated, and possibly housebound, can meet for companionship,  conversation, activities, a hot lunch and occasionally enjoy a day trip out.

The stimulation of shared activities, company and enjoying a nutritious meal without having to prepare it, together with the regular routine of attendance, can help people to remain independent in their own homes and community.

This can also provide some respite for family carers and supporters, enabling them to have a few hours to attend to their own needs knowing their relatives are safe and enjoying themselves.

Sessions run from 10.30am to 3pm every Monday and Friday except public and bank holidays, at the Community Room, Lynch Close, Mere, Wilts BA12 6EL. Guests may choose to attend one or both sessions, subject to availability.

Support

The Centre employs a well-qualified manager who is supported by trained volunteers to help run activities and serve meals and drinks to the guests. We welcome new volunteers – to find out more, click the ‘Volunteering’ tab at the top of this page.

All our volunteers are trained in covid-safe hygienic working measures to ensure that our guests are as safe as possible from infection.

A programme of activities is compiled every 6 months and our guests receive a copy of the plan for the current month. In the summer we also arrange occasional day trips out to places chosen by the guests.

See our Admissions Policy for more information on how we work and what we can and cannot do.
